yew 3 beautiful west coast yew spoon medium grain perfect orange wood smooth indented handle oval scoop, medium depth made from the same branch that spoons 1 and 15 were. in case you haven't read their story, i've included it again below: do you know of yew? i didn't really, but my dad today told me about it. he said, as tradition goes yews are never cut. what he meant was that when plots of land are logged the yew is left standing. he said, you know how sometimes you see one tree, left lonely in the middle of logged land. i said yes, then he said, those are often yew trees so the wood for this spoon was never logged, never saw the inside of a store and has never been sold before. but rather, came as a small scrap to him from a friend. a small branch he carved into this beautiful spoon. it's really special in that way and equally rare. 17 cm long hand carved from beginning to end

nova scotia sugar maple deep oval spoon and pointy fish tail handle. this one is almost pearly think of a tigers eye stone, it is a little like that. and a bit brighter than the photos show. the scoop is deep and oval. the color rich and interesting. the grain is amazing, wobbly in places and perfect in others. there are horizontal ribbons that stretch from one side to the other. my father told me that, the ribbons form as the tree follows the sun from east to west. isn't that amazing. the deepness of the wood, reminds me a little of the dark wood you can imagine in a well kept low lit home library. you know the type i mean, from the late 1800s with dark wood furniture, and tall tall ladders. it's really that lovely. just under 16 cm in length, so smooth and soft and hand carved from beginning to end. for xmas arrival to: canada - please add $5 to your cart united states - please add $8 to your cart

medium west coast arbutus spoon. wide light grain. the only native broad leafed evergreen in canada it often resides near the sea, if fact they generally do not grow, more that eight kilometers away. i love that part. the piece from this spoon, came from a tree, that blew down in a storm. you see, my parents heat their home with a wood stove, so in the summer my dad slowly builds a winter wood pile. this spoon with its light almost natural leather color, came from that pile. the tip, has small darker brown dots that are really cute. it's light weight and smooth and has a beautifully indented handle. hand carved from beginning to end it is just over 25 cm in length. for xmas arrival to: canada - please add $5 to your cart united states - please add $8 to your cart

west coast yew spoon oh, this one is difficult to part with the color is so perfect, almost a neon orange and perfectly smooth, hand carved from rare west coast yew do you know of yew? i didn't really, but my dad today told me about it. he said, as tradition goes yews are never cut. what he meant was that when plots of land are logged the yew is left standing. he said, you know how sometimes you see one tree, left lonely in the middle of logged land. i said yes, then he said, those are often yew trees so the wood for this spoon was never logged, never saw the inside of a store and has never been sold before. but rather, came as a small scrap to him from a friend. a small branch he carved into this beautiful spoon. it's really special in that way and equally rare. just under 16 cm
